Supporting the structure. Protecting the site.

Superior Group provides engineered shoring and underpinning solutions for projects requiring excavation adjacent to or below existing structures. From residential additions and basement lowering to commercial developments and deep excavations, our team works with the project requirements to provide safe, reliable structural support throughout construction.

Engineered shoring

Installation of temporary or permanent shoring systems to support excavation faces and protect adjacent structures, property and site conditions.

Underpinning

Underpinning existing foundations to allow for deeper excavation, basement lowering, additions or changes to the existing structure while maintaining structural support.

Basement lowering

Structural support and excavation solutions for increasing basement depth and usable space beneath existing buildings.

Foundation support

Support and stabilization of existing foundations where excavation or construction work may affect existing structures.

Excavation adjacent to existing structures

Shoring and support solutions for projects requiring excavation close to neighbouring buildings, foundations, property lines or other existing structures.

Tight-access and restricted sites

Specialized excavation, shoring and underpinning work where limited access or confined working conditions require careful planning and equipment selection.

Temporary structural support

Temporary support systems used during excavation, demolition, alterations or construction where existing structural elements require additional support.

Shoring removal and project completion

Removal of temporary shoring and completion of the excavation or foundation work once the permanent structure is in place and the site is ready for the next stage.

The house is never left unsupported

Underpinning is methodical by design. The numbers painted on the wall are the order of work, and the order is the safety.

01

Dig in stages

The ground beside the foundation comes out in short numbered sections, never all at once.

02

Pour in sequence

Each section is formed and poured before the next one opens up, following the numbers on the wall.

03

Bearing throughout

At every point in the job the structure bears on solid ground or new concrete, never on air.

Soldier piles and timber lagging

The workhorse of urban shoring: piles set along the cut with timber lagging placed as the excavation drops, holding the face for basement digs and foundation work.

Carrying the house while the basement goes down

When the ground below a structure has to come out, the structure is carried on steel and shoring posts while the new work goes in underneath. It is careful, methodical work, and it is the job homeowners are most nervous to hire for.

Built around the existing structure

Every shoring and underpinning project is different. Site conditions, existing foundations, excavation depth, access and surrounding structures all influence the required approach. Superior Group works from the project requirements and engineered designs to coordinate the excavation and structural support work safely and efficiently.
