The dig is the job
Most waterproofing failures are drainage failures. Exposing the footing takes machines and shoring next to an occupied house, and that is the part other outfits sub out.
Grade it away and it stays dry
Backfill goes back in lifts and the finished grade slopes away from the wall. Skip that and the best membrane on the market still ends up with water standing against it.
